It’s an estimate ONLY and ONLY applies to e-filed returns. Mailed returns take 6 to 8 weeks to process and issue the refund. If you’re lucky you’ll see it sometime in early to mid April.
It can be pretty accurate if you are in full compliance by filing all your tax returns from 2003 through 2008. It can be pretty accurate if you made no errors on your tax return, or IRS doesn’t find anything questionable on your tax return.
Processing takes 6-12 weeks from the date IRS received your tax return.
We had to mail our return in because of the first time home buyer credit. USPS confirmed that it got delivered to the irs on Feb. 13th and we haven’t been able to get any info about our refund as of yet. I have been told it can take as little as 6 weeks to as long as 3 or 4 months. This waiting game really sucks!
If theres no errors or miscalculations its pretty accurate. Screw up one thing though and looking at that calendar for your refund, is about as accurate as looking at it for rain prediction.
It is pretty accurate unless you have an amended return or a business return.
